I love to read but usually have little time for it. So for me, holidays involve the luxury of finding a good book to sink into.
Strolling around Barnes & Nobles while in Los Angeles, my sister picked up One Of Us Is Lying by Karen McManus and handed it to me. Reading the back, it sounded like The Breakfast Club meets a murder mystery. The premise of the book is 5 high school students in detention - the brain, the princess, the criminal, the jock and the outcast but one of them doesn't make it out alive and it's no accident.
I really enjoyed this book - it's told from the different characters points of view and gives the stereotypical characters more depth than I initially expected. I had my theory early on about which of the characters was guilty and was rewarded when it was revealed my guesses were correct, although it did make the story seem slightly predictable to me (ask my sister, I have a bit of a knack for figuring out what's going to happen in books or movies).
Another thing I liked about this book is the author doesn't shy away from relevant issues teenagers are facing today - sexuality, depression and bullying.
If your a fan of Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl and 13 Reasons why, this is definitely a book to get your hands on. I'd really like to see this made into a television series and wouldn't be surprised if the likes of Netflix also sees the potential (fingers crossed hehe).
